Online English (or French!) lessons

The benefits of taking private English lessons online

There are many advantages of taking private English lessons. All lessons will be 100% tailor-made to your level and your language learning goals. Private lessons allow you to study at your speed, concentrating on the skills you need, the areas you would like to work on and nothing else.

Maybe you would like to focus on preparing for an exam, improving your speaking or listening skills, expanding your vocabulary, improving your grammar to speak more accurately, improve your confidence speaking or maybe you need specific English for your work. Whatever your language learning objectives, you simply need to tell me and I will design your lessons around your level and objectives. Private lessons also mean you don’t need to stick to a set time each week, so if you have irregular working hours then you can book your lessons to suit your timetable and your availability.

What you will learn in your private English lessons

  • You will develop your speaking confidence and fluency.

  • Participate in discussions on a variety of topics.

  • Learn, review and practise new grammar and vocabulary.

  • Practise and improve your pronunciation and listening skills.

All lessons will be focused primarily on conversation (speaking and listening skills). However, students are welcome to practice their reading and writing skills at home and have feedback given on these as part of the lessons.

For many students, speaking is often the most useful, but weakest skill. For this reason, lessons will be focused on conversational skills. I encourage students to work on their reading and writing skills at home. I am happy to provide feedback on any personal homework during the lessons.

FAQs

How do online lessons work?

Over the last few years, many people have become familiar with Zoom, but of you haven’t you may wonder what it’s like and how it works in real life.

Zoom is an excellent way to work on your conversation, speaking and listening skills.

If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, during the Meet and Greet session I will run through how Zoom works and any of the tools that you may need during the lessons.

It is best to book a block of lessons as continuity with the same teacher helps your learning.

Please ensure that you are in a quiet room where you can easily concentrate and are away from distractions.

Lessons for your children

If you are booking lessons for your children, we recommend that you join them for the first few minutes to ensure that the connection is working properly and that they feel at ease with the teacher. After this though, you can leave them with the teacher and just keep an ear out in case they need anything.  We often find that children are less distracted when they are on their own!

What do I need for the online lessons?

You will need Wi-Fi or internet access, a laptop, computer or tablet with a webcam, microphone and speakers. I will provide all the study materials used in class.

If your teacher would like you to have any documents to refer to during your lesson, he/she will email these to you so that you can download and/or print them to look at during the Skype lessons.  Otherwise, he/she will message you using the chat feature to give you any vocabulary or grammar needed during the lesson.  If is handy to have a dictionary (online or paper) to hand also.

On the day of your lesson, we will email you the Zoom link to click on to join the lesson at the arranged time.

My shifts at work change every week. Is this problem?

The joy of private lessons means you are able to choose the days and times of your lessons depending on your work timetable. If you’re looking for online English classes which you can fit into your busy schedule, then we can help. Everyone has different needs: a job with a changing rota; children to look after … We recognise this and so we will organise your timetable of classes to suit you and your life. You can study English intensively, part-time, in the daytime, in the evening or at the weekend. You can even change each week! Flexible and understanding. Please let me know your schedule as soon as possible
